Biography —

Tom serves as associate vice chancellor for strategy development for the University of Kansas, conducting assessments of organizational units, such as campuses, schools, departments and programs, and facilitating strategic planning.
Tom became a Jayhawk as an undergrad, earning degrees in Journalism and Slavic Languages and Literature. As a graduate student, he earned his master’s degrees in Higher Education and in Health Services Administration. Prior to becoming a member of the KU Medical Center workforce, Tom worked in the telecommunications industry, first managing sales of emerging products and then supporting merger and acquisition integration teams. He then managed board and executive communications in the golf association industry. At KU, he joined the workforce as HIPAA manager, eventually serving as associate vice chancellor for compliance and then as associate vice chancellor for organizational improvement. He recently joined Corinne Bannon’s team to launch the KU Strategy Office with Cara Nossaman.
Tom lives in Shawnee with his border collies, Lena and Anderson. He is an avid distance kayaker, soon-to-be private pilot, and author (historical fiction). He loves eighties comedies and the 70’s on 7 SiriusXM station. His favorite book is “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” by Robert Pirsig, and his favorite quote is from “The Great Gatsby,” which reads, “Reserving judgment is a matter of infinite hope.”
